The sixth and final seminar under Part One of the Empowered Woman Series was held on the 13th of October, 2016, at the Fiesta Royale Hotel, North Dzorwulu, Accra. The Seminar was under the Theme; “Women Against Violence in Elections WAVE Ghana Two”.

Her Ladyship Justice (Mrs.) Gertrude Torkornoo, Justice of the Court of Appeal was the Main Speaker. The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah was the Special Guest of Honour. Other speakers were;  D S P Emmanuel Basintale, District Commander of the East Legon District and Mrs. Lys Hayfron- Asare, Executive Director, African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network.

Participants were drawn from among others; the Ministries of Gender and Social Protection; Interior; Health; Youth and Sports; Environment, Science and Technology; Justice and Attorney General’s Department; the Judiciary; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Institute of Economic Affairs; the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD – Ghana);  the Ghana Bar Association; DOVVSU; the Electoral Commission; Corporate Institutions; Tertiary institutions and the Media.

A Joint Communiqué was issued at the end of the Seminar. By this Communiqué, it was resolved among others that; The Media has an integral role to play in promoting peace before, during and after elections; the relevant Security Agencies and the Ghana Armed Forces must be vigilant during election to prevent or curb election violence; public education and sensitization programme should be regularly undertaken by various stakeholders to educate the public on among others, the use of social media during elections; women should be encouraged, supported and empowered to stand for political offices.
