Who We Are

The Centre for Legal Advocacy Research Education and Training, CLARiT, is an independent Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) registered under the laws of Ghana.

Ghana boasts of quite an impressive list of women appointed to top positions. In spite of this, women as well as children, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups continue to be marginalised in the decision making processes as well as in other important spheres of the economy.

The rights of the vulnerable groups in Ghana; women, both rural and urban, the aged, children and people with disabilities continue to be trampled upon because they are the least aware of their rights and are unable therefore to effectively deal with legal issues confronting them.

There also exists in Ghana today, a large number of people including women, youth and children languishing in prison cells mostly on remand, because of a lack of access to justice, due to lack of funds or other issues. These among other emerging issues, informed the decision to establish CLARiT. Our unique and dynamic way of achieving results is due mostly to our reliance on five main tenets. These are; research, informed discussion, platform building, participation and law, and policy formulation.

Empowering and safeguarding the rights of the vulnerable by providing a platform for participation, discussions to influence law and policy making.
