The fourth in the Series of Seminars under the Theme “Women Against Violence in Elections –WAVE GHANA” was held on 23rd August 2012, at the Fiesta Royale Hotel.
The “WAVE GHANA” Seminar was a marked departure from previous seminars held under the EWS in that unlike her predecessors, this was part of a Programme which comprised three parts.
The first witnessed the appointment of Ambassadors under the Programme; (Ambassadors were women practitioners in an identified field, sector or industry who through their knowledge and experiences, challenges and strengths could influence not only their peers, but ultimately policymakers and legislators in forging peace in the Country before, during and after Election 2016).
The second was the Seminar; whilst the third part comprised the series of activities under the Programme.
Mrs. Joana Opare, an International Consultant was the Main Speaker at the Seminar whilst Hon. Gifty Ohene Konadu, MP for Asante Akim South Constituency and Ranking Member Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender and Children, was the Special Guest of Honour.
Seminar Participants were drawn from among others, the Ministries of; Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC), Energy, Justice and Attorney – General’s Department, Finance, Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, Youth and Sports; Parliament; the Judiciary; the Electoral Commission (EC); the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE); the Ghana Revenue Authority; the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD); tertiary institutions; victims of war; Civil Society Organisations; Makola Market; the Media and; the legal profession among others.
A Joint Communiqué was issued at the end of the Seminar. By this Communiqué, it was resolved among others that;

The Media should; be impartial and professional in election reportage before, during and after elections, avoid sensationalism and use of inflammatory language and promote responsible engagement and, report only accurate and factual information; stakeholders should ensure that accurate information is disseminated in a timely manner and political parties should keep their electioneering campaign promises of allocating specific quotas to women in public positions.
